What We Fix

RV hitch and leveling repair - at your site.

Your RV's hitch and leveling system takes a beating. Between road vibration, weather exposure, and thousands of extend-retract cycles, things wear out. We see failed jack motors, bad sensors, loose hitches, and worn landing gear every week across Port St. Lucie, FL. Here's what we fix and what it typically costs.

Auto-Leveling Jack Repair

Lippert, HWH, and Power Gear leveling systems are what we work on most. Motor replacement, controller board failures, sensor calibration, and touchpad errors. If your jacks won't extend, retract, or throw an error code, we've got the diagnostic tools and parts to sort it out on-site.

$150-400 parts + labor - 1-2 hours

Manual Jack Repair / Replacement

Tongue jacks, stabilizer jacks, scissor jacks. Gearbox failures, stripped crank handles, bent shafts, and worn foot pads. These are straightforward repairs that we knock out fast. We carry common replacement jacks and parts on the truck for same-visit fixes.

$80-200 parts + labor - 30-60 min

Fifth Wheel Hitch Service

Pin box adjustment, jaw replacement, lubrication, king pin inspection. We service B&W, Reese, and PullRite hitches on-site. If your fifth wheel hitch is making noise, not locking properly, or feels loose when you're towing, it needs attention before the next trip.

$100-300 parts + labor - 45-90 min

Weight Distribution Hitch Setup

Equalizer, Blue Ox, Husky. Spring bar adjustment, sway control, proper weight distribution setup. If your truck squats in the rear or the trailer sways at highway speed, the WDH probably isn't set up right. We measure, adjust, and test it properly. Takes about 45-90 minutes on-site.

$100-250 parts + labor - 45-90 min

Brake Controller Install / Repair

Tekonsha, Curt, and Draw-Tite controllers. We install new units and troubleshoot existing ones. Wiring, calibration, error codes, and gain adjustment. If your tow vehicle has a factory plug, it's a 30-minute install. No factory plug? We run the wiring from scratch.

$80-200 parts + labor - 30-60 min

Trailer Wiring / 7-Pin Connector

7-pin connector replacement, wiring repair, ground issues, and light troubleshooting. Bad grounds and corroded pins are the most common trailer wiring problems we see on the Treasure Coast. Salt air accelerates corrosion fast. We clean, repair, or replace connectors and trace wiring faults.

$60-150 parts + labor - 20-45 min

Landing Gear Repair

Electric landing gear motors, gearboxes, and switches. Super common on fifth wheels. The motor hums but the jack won't move? That's usually a stripped gear or a seized shaft. We carry replacement motors and gearbox assemblies for same-visit repairs on most Lippert and Venture units.

$150-350 parts + labor - 1-2 hours

Pre-Trip Safety Inspection

Hitch components, brake adjustment, tire check, all lights, safety chains, and breakaway switch. We've caught loose hitch bolts, dragging brakes, and bad breakaway switches that would've been real problems 200 miles down I-95. Worth doing before any long haul.

$75-120 - 45-60 min
Warning Signs

5 signs your hitch or leveling system needs attention.

01

Auto-leveling jacks won't extend, retract, or error out

If your Lippert or HWH touchpad shows an error code, the jacks freeze mid-cycle, or they won't respond at all, something's failed. Could be a motor, sensor, fuse, or the controller board itself. Don't force it - that makes it worse.

02

Fifth wheel hitch is loose, noisy, or not locking properly

A clunking sound when you start or stop, play in the pin box, or jaws that don't snap closed tight all point to wear. A loose fifth wheel hitch is a safety issue - get it checked before the next tow.

03

Trailer sways at highway speed despite weight distribution hitch

If you've got a WDH installed and the trailer still sways when trucks pass or the wind picks up, the spring bars likely aren't tightened to spec. We see this constantly. Proper adjustment fixes it.

04

Electric landing gear motor hums but jack won't move

That humming sound means the motor is getting power but can't turn the shaft. Stripped gears, a seized jack, or a broken coupling are the usual suspects. Running it like that burns the motor out fast.

05

Brake controller shows error or trailer brakes aren't responding

If the controller flashes an error, the brakes drag, or you feel no trailer braking at all, there's a wiring fault, bad ground, or failed controller. Trailer brakes aren't optional - this needs fixing before you tow.

Needed a weight distribution hitch set up properly on our new travel trailer. Tech came to the house, adjusted the spring bars, set the sway control, and showed me how to check it myself. Tows straight as an arrow now.

FAQ

RV hitch and leveling questions we get all the time.

How much does RV leveling jack repair cost in Port St. Lucie?

Most RV leveling jack repairs run $150-400 depending on the problem. A single motor replacement typically costs $200-300 with parts and labor. Sensor replacements and controller board repairs are usually $150-250. Manual jack repairs and stabilizer replacements run $80-200. We always write up an estimate before starting work - no surprise invoices.

Why won't my auto-leveling jacks work?

The most common causes are a bad jack motor, a failed position sensor, a blown fuse, or a controller board fault. On Lippert systems we see a lot of sensor failures that throw error codes on the touchpad. Low battery voltage can also prevent the system from cycling. We carry a diagnostic tool that reads Lippert and HWH error codes on-site, so we can pinpoint it fast.

Can you fix a fifth wheel hitch on-site?

Yes. We service fifth wheel hitches at your campsite, driveway, or RV park. Common jobs include jaw replacement, pin box adjustment, king pin inspection, and lubrication. B&W, Reese, and PullRite are the brands we work on most. If the hitch is making noise or not locking properly, we can usually sort it out in under 90 minutes.

How do I know if my weight distribution hitch is set up correctly?

Check the height of your tow vehicle at the front and rear bumper with the trailer hooked up and spring bars loaded. Both measurements should be within an inch of the unloaded height. If the rear of the truck squats noticeably or the front lifts, the bars need adjustment. We measure and set it properly with a calibrated setup, usually takes 45-90 minutes on-site.

Why is my trailer swaying at highway speed?

Trailer sway at speed is usually caused by improper weight distribution, incorrect tongue weight, or a sway control that's worn or not adjusted right. Wind and passing trucks make it worse. An Equalizer or Blue Ox WDH with integrated sway control handles most of this, but it has to be set up correctly. We see trailers come in with the spring bars barely doing anything because they weren't tightened to spec.

How often should leveling jacks be serviced?

According to Lippert Components, leveling jacks should be lubricated and inspected at least once a year or every 10-12 uses. In Florida's salt-air climate along the Treasure Coast, we'd recommend every 6 months if you're parked near the water. Check for corrosion on the cylinder shafts, test the controller, and grease all pivot points. Preventive maintenance runs $75-120 and avoids a $300+ motor replacement later.

Can you install a brake controller in my tow vehicle?

Yes. We install Tekonsha, Curt, and Draw-Tite brake controllers in trucks and SUVs. Most tow vehicles built after 2015 have a factory brake controller plug under the dash - if yours does, it's a 30-minute install. If not, we run the wiring from scratch. We calibrate it to your trailer's brake system and test it before we leave. Runs $80-200 depending on the controller and wiring situation.

Do you do pre-trip inspections?

Yes, and we strongly recommend them before any long haul. We check hitch components, brake adjustment, tire pressure and condition, all exterior lights, safety chains, breakaway switch, and the leveling system. Takes about 45-60 minutes and runs $75-120. We've caught loose hitch bolts, dragging brakes, and bad breakaway switches that would've been real problems 200 miles down I-95.
